In 2004, she served as Coordinator and Member of the Cabinet of the European Commission, where she led the design and implementation of up to ten clean energy collaboration projects, each with budgets of 4–5 million EUR, across regions including the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. This formative experience established her expertise in large-scale sustainability initiatives and international energy policy. She went on to take research roles with organisations such as CERA and Edelman before progressing into strategic positions in the energy sector. By 2015, she was Co-chair of the Startup Working Group of the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore, helping to create a common platform for renewable energy and energy efficiency companies. These early roles laid a strong foundation for her future leadership in clean energy innovation and sustainable development.

In recent years, Katarina has continued to expand her influence and impact. Since 2021, she has served as Partner and Global Director of Strategy & Advisory at AESG, shaping high-level sustainability strategies for clients across the globe. She is also a Steering Committee Member of Chapter Zero UAE and a Programme Director at Guidehouse, reinforcing her leadership in climate governance. She founded Enrupt in 2017 to foster innovation in the energy sector and established The August Company in 2016, a boutique consultancy dedicated to clean energy.
