Emma Stewart is a remarkable individual who has a unique ability to combine her expertise of environmental sustainability, strategy, and innovative ability, to the corporate sustainability field. Currently the Netflix Sustainability Officer, Emma’s work has impacted thousands of us without even realising it. With over two decades of experience within her profession, Emma is able to draw on her knowledge in her talks on sustainability, product design, climate change planning, transport electrification, land use, and biodiversity.

Having gained her BA in Human Sciences from Oxford University, Emma then went on to gain her PhD in Environmental Science, Policy and Management from Stanford University. To add to her qualifications, Emma became a LEED Accredited Professional and she would help many corporations throughout her career with her knowledge of green buildings. Emma first started out her career as a Research Analyst for Inform and then became an Associate for Synergy Global Consulting Ltd. It was not long before Emma would then become a Senior Consultant for the Environmental Defence Fund, and then a Director of Environmental R&D for BSR. During her time at BSR, she advised and conducted research for Fortune500 companies on a wide variety of topics from climate change, water, toxicity and product design. As the Head of Sustainability Solutions for one of the biggest software companies in the world, Autodesk, Emma’s team won numerous multi-million dollar contracts to reduce the cost and effort of auditing buildings. She also co-authored the world’s first science-based corporate climate target. All these feats led Emma to be declared a ‘Badass Woman in Sustainability’ by GreenBiz and ‘One of the most powerful women under 45’ and an ‘urban pioneer’ by FORTUNE Magazine.

Undoubtedly proving herself to be an expert in her field, after becoming the Head of High Tech for ENGIE Impact, she then took on her biggest challenge yet: becoming Netflix’s Sustainability Officer. She is vital in helping Netflix meet their target of cutting their emissions in half by 2030. Devoted to helping raise the issue of climate change, Emma has helped Netflix’s users better understand climate change by helping with the creation of TV programmes and films. More than 70% of Netflix users have watched these programmes which include ‘Down To Earth With Zac Efron’, ‘Our Great National Parks’ and ‘Out Great National Parks’. In recognition of her hard work, Emma has been named as one of the ‘Top 10 Women in Sustainability’ by American Builders.
