Roger Bootle is a leading British economist, best known as the founding Chairman of Capital Economics. Having enjoyed a successful career at the forefront of British economics, Roger has built his expertise in predicting future financial trends and delivers a comprehensive understanding of the British economy as an ESG speaker. Advising audiences on how to make responsible investments, Roger is able to inform on how economic, social and corporate governance factors affect an investment.

Beginning his career as an economist for Capel-Cure Myers and Lloyds Bank, Roger then moved on to become the Group Chief Economist of HSBC. For a period of time, Roger also worked as part of the UK Treasury’s Panel of Economic Forecasters before he founded Capital Economics in 1999. Undertaking impactful work in economics, Roger is famed for helping his company to become the recipient of the 2012 Wolfson Economics Prize.

Having since sold stakes in his company to Lloyds Banking Group and Phoenix Equity Partners, Roger continues his role as Chairman but has dedicated his time to other ventures. He has been a member of Economists for Free Trade and also acted as a Special Advisor to the House of Commons Treasury Committee. He also shared his time as an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and a Visiting Professor at the Manchester Business School. He has also been recognised as the 2012 Economics Commentator of the Year at The Comment Awards, and authored books such as The Trouble With Markets, The AI Economy and The Death of Inflation.
