Early in her career, Jo honed her skills as a producer at the BBC, working with the acclaimed “Blue Planet” production team for ten years. During this period, she was involved in numerous underwater filming projects that captured the stunning beauty and fragility of marine life—from the icy expanses of Antarctica to the vibrant reefs of the Caribbean. After leaving the BBC, her desire to deepen public awareness led her to Co-Found the Plastic Oceans Foundation in 2009 and produce the internationally award-winning documentary feature, “A Plastic Ocean.”

In 2017, Jo assumed the role of CEO of Plastic Oceans UK, where she is working to change the way society uses single-use plastics. Her leadership in raising awareness and engaging audiences through innovative programmes in science, policy, and sustainability has been transformative. In 2021, Jo founded Ocean Generation, a platform dedicated to translating complex ocean science into engaging content and practical actions. These endeavours not only demonstrate her commitment to marine conservation but also highlight her ability to drive meaningful change. In 2022, Jo was honoured with an MBE recognising her commitment to marine conservation.
