Back in 1979, Jo began what would become an illustrious career as the Editor of Look Now Magazine. Famed as Britain’s youngest-ever magazine editor at the time she was Editor of Look Now, Jo worked with the publication for four years before moving to become the Editor of Honey Magazine. In 1991, Jo realised her potential as an entrepreneur, and co-founded Green & Black’s with her husband, Craig Sams. Now approaching a £100 million a year brand, Green & Black’s was the producer of the first organic chocolate bar in the UK and the Maya Gold was the first chocolate to be awarded the Fairtrade mark in the UK.

With the success of Green & Black’s ever-increasing, Jo was able to further her entrepreneurial visions, later becoming the Founder of Judges Bakery, an organic and natural food store and bakery. She has also since become the Co-Founder of The Perfume Society, an appreciation society for fragrance lovers, and the Beauty Bible, a guide to all things make-up, body care, skincare and hair care. She is also the creator of The Wellington Centre, a boutique nine-room wellbeing centre. In recognition of her achievements as an entrepreneur, Jo has been awarded the WorldAware Award and many different Soil Association Awards – honouring both Green & Black’s and Judges Bakery. She has also been the recipient of The Shackleton Medal for Leadership and Citizenship from The Scottish Royal Geographical Society and awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Studies from Kingston University.

Katie, UNIDAYS

“Josephine Fairley spoke at our Chairman’s Annual Business Dinner on the 15th March 2013. Jo was absolutely fantastic, her talk was so inspirational and completely fitted our audience of 160 business delegates. Jo’s story gripped the crowd by being both honest and funny, holding everyone’s full attention for 40minutes. Jo also communicated well in lead up to the event ensuring that she had an understanding of the audience that would be present as well as providing me with contact details, making my role as an event manager that little bit easier. On the evening and shortly after the event, I received an abundance of compliments from delegates all praising Jo’s talk so once again, thank you.”
