Renowned corporate leader and entrepreneur, Göran Carstedt is hailed for his expertise in sustainability. Having led some of the world’s biggest companies to become pioneers in environmental business, and supported governments in achieving their sustainability goals, Göran is an undeniable leader in his field. Best known for his roles at the forefront of global business, Göran is the former President of Volvo Svenska Bil AB, the Swedish division of Volvo. During his many years in senior positions for the car chain, Göran made invaluable contributions that futureproofed Volvo, leading him to be selected as a member of the Volvo Group Management Committee. In 1990 Göran became the President of IKEA North America, a position in which he proved influential as a leader and change agent, spearheading environmental strategies across the business. Göran later served as head of IKEA Retail Europe and as a member of the IKEA Group Management Board.
Outside of his defining leadership roles, Göran has a reputation for his impact on large scale sustainability and earned his PhD on the topic in 1974. An avid supporter of climate action organisations, Göran has been involved with The Natural Step, a group that developed a model for back-casting on sustainability. Proving the extent of his knowledgeable insights, Göran was brought on board as the Senior Director of the Clinton Climate Change Initiative in 2007, responsible for building relationships and collaborating wit the 40 largest cities in the world to tackle climate change through technological advancements.
