Farah’s Own Personal Journey with the Ocean – What it’s Like at Sea & Her Goals to Safeguard Ocean Health
Farah Obaidullah is an inspiring voice in ocean advocacy, with over two decades of experience dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems. As a high-performance speaker, she delivers compelling insights into the state of our oceans, weaving vivid narratives of their beauty and the threats they face. Her ability to blend scientific expertise with personal experiences resonates deeply with diverse audiences, urging them to take meaningful action. Farah holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London, solidifying her authority on marine and environmental issues.

Farah’s journey began with her passion for biology and environmental conservation, which led her to pivotal roles in global ocean advocacy. Her tenure as Senior Oceans Campaigner at Greenpeace marked a turning point, as she led significant initiatives that brought attention to destructive practices in the marine industry. Notably, she was instrumental in halting the transfer of hydraulic dredging from the Netherlands to Mauritania, safeguarding vulnerable ecosystems. Her work extended to uncovering fish crimes (IUU – illegal, unreported, and unregulated) and addressing human rights abuses in the fishing sector, an effort recognised when she presented at INTERPOL’s 2014 conference on human trafficking – a ground-breaking moment for raising labour issues in global forums.

In recent years, Farah has achieved remarkable milestones. In 2017, she founded The Ocean and Us, a non-profit organisation advocating for healthy oceans as essential to human survival and as a moral obligation to all life on earth. Farah is currently dedicating her time and that of The Ocean and Us to stopping deep sea mining, including calling for a moratorium. This is an area of expertise for Farah, and she is highly credible to speak on it. She also launched Women4Oceans (W4O), a platform empowering women in marine industries, fostering leadership and representation. In 2023, Farah published her book, The Ocean and Us, which explores humanity’s intricate relationship with the ocean, inspiring readers to reconnect with and protect this vital ecosystem.

Farah is sought after as a speaker for her unparalleled ability to connect scientific facts with emotional storytelling. Her presentations are not just informative; they are calls to action, leaving audiences empowered to make a difference. Whether addressing policymakers, corporate leaders, or young activists, Farah’s passion, expertise, and authenticity make her the ideal choice for those seeking a transformative speaker who inspires change.
