David Ferguson is a seasoned sustainability expert and a compelling speaker known for his ability to bridge innovation, climate strategy, and technological progress. With over two decades of experience in the field, he brings both deep technical knowledge and strategic insight to his presentations. Currently Head of Net Zero Innovation at EDF, he also serves on the Tech Advisory Board for Tech South West and holds a Non-Executive Director role at Exeter Science Park. As a Fellow of the RSA since 2018, David has cultivated a strong voice in shaping the future of sustainable innovation in the UK and beyond.
His journey began with a BSc in Environmental Geosciences from the University of Sheffield, followed by an MSc in Business and Environment from Imperial College London. Early in his career, he joined The SMART Company as a consultant before taking on increasingly influential roles at EDF Energy. From leading sustainability initiatives in the early 2000s to shaping global sustainable development policy in Paris, he built a reputation as a forward-thinking leader. His ability to navigate both business and environmental priorities led to key innovation roles, including Head of Digital Innovation and leadership positions across the UK and China.
In recent years, David has cemented his position at the intersection of sustainability and technology. As Head of Net Zero Innovation, he is responsible for driving EDF’s transition to a low-carbon future, with a focus on emerging technologies and digital transformation. His former role on the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence and involvement with regional science and tech boards reflect his commitment to wider societal impact. His contributions continue to influence national and international thinking on the role of innovation in tackling climate change.
