Prof. Dr. Christian Berg is a globally recognised expert in corporate sustainability and systemic change, known for helping organisations turn environmental and social responsibility into long-term strategic advantage. With over 20 years of experience spanning industry, academia and public policy, Christian is a sought after keynote speaker for leadership events, business forums and sustainability conferences. Christian’s academic path began with studies in physics and philosophy, later extending into theology, giving him a rare interdisciplinary perspective on the relationship between science, ethics and society. This broad foundation shaped his professional direction and led to a senior role at SAP, where he served for many years as Chief Sustainability Architect within SAP’s management consultancy. In this role, Christian worked with global businesses to integrate sustainability into corporate strategy, digital transformation and operational decision making, helping organisations align commercial performance with environmental and societal impact.
Alongside his corporate leadership, Christian has built an influential academic career. He has been a Visiting Professor for Corporate Sustainability at Saarland University since 2010 and Honorary Professor of Sustainability and Global Change at Clausthal University of Technology since 2008. His expertise has also been recognised at the highest political level, where he advised former German Chancellor Angela Merkel on sustainable business matters and played a leading role in a government task force focused on sustainable economic activity and growth. As an author, Christian has contributed to international sustainability discourse through work connected to the Club of Rome and published the book ‘Sustainable Action: Overcoming the Barriers’, which explores how organisations and societies can accelerate sustainability transitions.
