Sustainability and environmental activist of 30 years, Chris Hines is one of the UK’s most prominent voices on the topic. As the former Sustainability Director for the Eden Project, Chris has implemented large scale corporate strategies that work towards eco goals, and he now educates audiences on how they can replicate his success in their businesses. As a speaker, Chris draws on his extensive industry expertise to transform the future impact of corporate clients.

For six years, Chris worked as the Sustainability Director of the Eden Project, one of the country’s largest tourist attractions and environmental education centres. As the first person to hold the role, Chris was responsible for championing the business’ renewable energy mission and ensuring its goals were in line with wider international eco aims. During his tenure, Chris played a pivotal role in the development of the Eden Project’s sustainable surfboard, which was made using balsa from the tropical biome at the project. Having made such an influential impact on sustainable business practices, Chris was called on as a Special Advisor to the Secretary of State for the Environment.

A passionate surfer, Chris’ first venture into environmental campaigning was as the Co-Founder and Director of Surfers Against Sewage. The charity was formed to support marine conservation dealing with issues from litter to climate change, with Chris at the forefront for 10 years. Much of Chris’ dedicated work with the organisation was again water pollution and led him to share his solutions in the likes of the House of Commons, European Parliament and Lords Select Committees.

Awarded an MBE in 2008 for his services to the environment, Chris has continued his essential work with his latest venture as the Owner of A Grain of Sand. The project was established to combine his 30 years of experience and give a platform to change in the field of environmentalism with a focus on positive solution solving. When booked as a speaker, audiences benefit from Chris’ knowledge and strategies developed over decades of proactive work.
